My girlfriend and I have recently returned from a short two night stay at Ashley House and I felt compelled to echo the compliments left by previous guests. The proprietors and hosts, Nicky and Jamie, were extremely welcoming and really couldn’t do enough for us, (thanks for the corkscrew and wine glasses!). Our room was probably better described as a suite – it was really spacious, with more than enough room for a large dressing table, ample cupboard space and a table and chairs overlooking a well-maintained garden. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, (and so it should be as it’s the same type of bed used by top London 5* hotels, and I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time. The breakfast was delicious, with a choice of cereals, fresh fruits and yoghurts preceding the full English. Every ingredient was locally sourced and the time spent sourcing the produce was clearly time well spent. In particular, the sausages were excellent and the eggs, (from Nicky and Jamie’s own chickens in the back garden!), were cooked perfectly.
This B&B is a real gem; South Molton is a quiet town but has plenty of local shops, pubs and eateries nearby, (and the Michelin starred Masons Arms just 15 minutes drive away). We spent a day wandering along the north Devon coastline, following routes recommended to us by Jamie who not only pointed out the good walks but took the time to supply directions too. The whole establishment is spotless, has been refurbished sympathetically and has been furnished to a high standard.
I cannot recommend Ashley House highly enough and would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.
